President meets Great Britain's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
President Victor Yushchenko met today with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of Great Britain David Miliband. At the meeting sides discussed bilateral relations between their respective countries, European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine, aspects of international situation, particularly the developments in Georgia, etc. Opening the meeting President Yushchenko thanked Secretary of State Miliband for his visit and said that it would undoubtedly result in further development of bilateral relation between Ukraine and Great Britain. He also expressed gratitude to British side for constant support of Ukraine’s European aspirations and stressed hope that Great Britain would render support to Ukraine during discussion of the new agreement with the EU at the twelfth EU-Ukraine Summit on September 9. Speaking about Ukraine’s position on the situation in Georgia President Yushchenko repeated that our country would not support Russia’s decision to recognize independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. From his part Mr. Miliband said that Great Britain is indignant with actions Russia has been making during last two weeks. Other participants of the meeting from Ukraine were Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko and deputy Chief of Staff of Presidential Secretariat Andrii Goncharuk; from Great Britain – Ambassador of Great Britain to Ukraine Leigh Turner. |
