President Yushchenko gives interview to Bloomberg L.P.
President Victor Yushchenko gave an interview to Bloomberg L.P. news company.
The main topics of conversation were the economic situation in Ukraine, the budgetary process, the stability of national currency, the situation around Naftogaz Ukraine and energy security. The President also made comments on the results of his official visit to Turkmenistan on September 14-16.
In the interview Victor Yushchenko outlined his vision of the Ukrainian-Russian relations and prospects of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
When asked about the principles with which Victor Yushchenko is going to compete in the coming presidential election, he expressed confidence that a candidate should avoid populism and be straightforward when speaking to voters about strategic perspectives. "Democracy is the only way for Ukraine to be independent. Any totalitarian government, which was or which may come to power, will lead to dependency”, he said.
