President Yanukovych meets Arseniy Yatsenyuk
President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has rapidly responded to the open letter one of the candidates in last presidential election Arseniy Yatsenyuk had addressed him with. "First of all I am grateful to Arseniy Yatsenyuk because despite the fact that he was my opponent in the presidential election, he managed to look at the process from a distance and understands that today there is nothing more important than consolidation of politicians, both in power and in opposition, for the sake of fighting the recession", said Viktor Yanukovych. "I've always offered hand to those, who put public interests above personal ones. I offered Arseniy Yatsenyuk a chief position in the future Cabinet, which we hope to appoint in the coming few days. But Mr. Yatsenyuk refused and expressed his belief that he would rather be in opposition”, said Viktor Yanukovych. “I hope this opposition will be effective and will keep from ruining the country”, he added. "From Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s letter I understood that he would rather not wait 18 months for regular parliamentary election but prefers the option of early election. But I cannot do that. Because I face a very important task to overcome the recession in the country and improve people's lives rapidly and effectively. In order to achieve that all authorities should act jointly, systematically and rapidly. For the country early election is a great waste of time and resources. The state just cannot afford that", said President Yanukovych.
