President: I hope for support of trade unions in bringing order to the state

At his today's meeting with representatives of national trade unions President Viktor Yanukovych stressed that he is now facing a number of difficult tasks and cannot succeed in their accomplishment without the broad support of the society, of all the citizens of Ukraine.

Among the most difficult ones Viktor Yanukovych called the effective use of all available resources in the country, including the budget. According to him the main problem here is severe spread of corruption among those, who have access to these resources, the managers of budgetary funds.

"This has become a habit and gained a great momentum over the past five years. Today, it is a burden the state is forced to carry", he said.

Given this, the President promised to conduct an effective anti-corruption policy. "I will surely make the most effective use of the existing anti-corruption legislation. There will be a relevant public body established to deal with these issues and the existing legal framework will be improved. It certainly will give us the opportunity to effectively utilize all state resources”, he said.

Viktor Yanukovych has also explained the reasons behind his decision to reduce the staff of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine and cut his own salary. "I know that there are different points of view on my decision to reduce the staff of the Presidential Administration and the decision to cut my own salary. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that it was not a tribute to fashion, but the entirely logical reaction to the current state of public finances and the economy”, he said.

The President added that he instructed to reduce spending on maintenance of state authorities of different levels.

"I said to every governor, to the Ministers, that this all is not about deterioration of performance and efficiency. It is about bringing order. And here we must begin with ourselves ", said Viktor Yanukovych.

Summarizing all that has been said, the President of Ukraine noted that he strongly hopes for active participation of the trade unions in bringing order to the country.
