President meets German Foreign Minister

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met in Berlin with Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Guido Westerwelle.

At the beginning of the conversation Guido Westerwelle said that Chancellor Angela Merkel has told him about the success of the Ukrainian-German negotiations that took place that day. From his part, the Ukrainian Head of State expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Germany and with the atmosphere of all today's meetings. The President of Ukraine noted that almost all the issues discussed today are practically confirmed. "Mutual desire to start a new progressive era in constructive relations with Germany is extremely important. There are all grounds for that," he said.

"We are allies and like-minded in many questions," said Viktor Yanukovych.

Speaking about bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs positively assessed joint preparation to the conference on energy issues to be held in Ukraine in autumn.

He stressed that Germany is interested in such partner, as Ukraine. "We are watching the events in your country very carefully," Guido Westerwelle said.

The Vice Chancellor insisted on the importance of expanding cooperation between our countries, the intensification of relations not only in the economic sector, but also in cultural, scientific, and educational areas. He also noted that he appreciates his cooperation with the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
