President of Ukraine meets Leader of China

President Viktor Yanukovych held a bilateral meeting with Leader of China Hu Jintao.

"It is a great pleasure for me and the Ukrainian delegation to come the People's Republic of China to meet with you and the Chinese people," Viktor Yanukovych said at the beginning of the conversation. "We have watched you building strong and modern country for years with great interest and friendliness,” he said.

The President also expressed his appreciation to the Leader of China for his consistency and perseverance in carrying out joint decisions taken by leaders of China and Ukraine during their meeting in Washington. Viktor Yanukovych also expressed gratitude to the Leader of China for congratulating the Ukrainian people on the Independence Day.

From his part, Hu Jintao expressed his conviction that current state visit of the President of Ukraine to China "will become a strong impetus to further strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between China and Ukraine, and will bring our relations to a higher level.”

Welcoming Viktor Yanukovych in China, Hu Jintao said: "You have always dedicated great attention to developing relations with China and made great efforts to promote friendship between our countries."

The Chinese Leader also stressed that the position of the President of Ukraine is very important for his country, according to which, developing relations with China is one of the priorities of Ukraine's foreign policy. "We appreciate it," Hu Jintao said. He also expressed gratitude to Viktor Yanukovych for the condolences, which he had sent in connection with the disaster in the Gansu Province.

The Leader of the People's Republic of China stressed that appreciates the time, he will spend communicating with the Head of the Ukrainian state. "I am ready to exchange views today on questions of bilateral nature and other topics of mutual interest," Hu Jintao said.
