President expresses concern over recent events around Ukrainian media

The President expressed concern over recent events around Ukrainian media including filing criminal cases against online edition “Livyi Bereg” and TV channel TBi. “It is critically important for a democratic country to protect freedom of speech and prevent pressure on media,” the President said.

The President noted that media examinations before the elections affect political situation in the country. “Pluralism of opinions in media is a guarantee of democratic will in future elections. The government must do everything to protect media and voters’ rights,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President instructed Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka and Chairman of State Tax Service Oleksandr Klymenko to verify the legality of criminal cases against online edition “Livyi Bereg” and TV channel TBi.
