President on the importance of adopting the law on diplomatic service: Diplomats are our army on the frontline of foreign policy

In the course of the meeting of the National Council of Reforms, President Petro Poroshenko noted that the introduction of the Association Agreement with the EU that entered into force on September 1 was a precondition for the further steps on European integration. “It is our road to the European Union,” the Head of State noted and emphasized that “millions of Ukrainians came to Maidan” for the given Agreement and “a high price of the lives of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred was paid for that”.

At the same time, the Head of State focused the attention of the participants of the meeting to the necessity of considering and parliamentary voting for the new version of the law on diplomatic service.

“The adoption of the law on diplomatic service is as important as the formation of the defense strategy, approval of the Strategic Defense Bulletin and army reformation. This is also our army, but on a different frontline - frontline of the foreign policy that allows us to keep and mobilize the coalition's union in support of Ukraine, ensure the continuation of sanctions and the movement of reforming our country into Europe,” he emphasized.

The President thanked the Ukrainian diplomats who “fulfill an extremely important function in the history of our state”. He emphasized that the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian diplomatic service would take place shortly. “I think that on the 100th anniversary the Ukrainian diplomatic service deserved the adoption of this systemic important law in December,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The Head of State thanked the diplomats, the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs and its chairman, Hanna Hopko, for an active participation in the drafting of the new Law "On Diplomatic Service".
