President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that integration to the EU and NATO is the priority of foreign policy and must be fixed in the Constitution of Ukraine.
“Integration to the EU and NATO is the priority of our foreign policy. This civilizational choice is strongly supported by Ukrainian nation. That is why I have intention to fix this strategic course in the Constitution of Ukraine,” the Head of State emphasized during the joint press briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
According to the President, today’s meeting with Allies is very symbolic as it marks the 10th anniversary of the Bucharest Summit when Ukraine and Georgia received commitment regarding NATO membership in the future.
“We believe that Alliance’s door will remain open and Ukraine which shares NATO’s common values will become an ally when we will be ready. We do not ask the permission from anybody whether we have the right to become a member-state or not. This is a sovereign choice of the Ukrainian people and we welcome your strong position, Mr. Secretary General, and that of the member-states,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
“I hope that Allies will recognize and support Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukrainians,” the President emphasized.
