In the course of the fifth session of the Regional Development Council, President Petro Poroshenko emphasized that powers to form tariffs for heat and water supply must be transferred from the National Commission for State Regulation on Energy and Utilities to the level of local authorities. According to the Head of State, this will provide an opportunity to use this resource more efficiently and improve the quality of these services.

In the course of the fifth session of the Regional Development Council headed by the President, Head of the EIB delegation in Ukraine Lilia Cherniavska told about the EIB’s activity in Ukraine. According to her, one of the main directions of the EIB is the support of people that found themselves in a difficult situation because of the “conflict in the east of the country”, as well as the reconstruction of the ruined social infrastructure. The President addressed the Head of the EIB Delegation: “Excuse me, but we have no conflict in the east. We have Russian occupation of the Ukrainian land”.

President Petro Poroshenko expects new independent Supreme Court of Ukraine to start working in May-June 2017. It was stated at the fifth session of the Regional Development Council.

Ukraine has made progress in struggle against corruption, however continuation of this struggle and further implementation of anti-corruption reform remain an important task for 2017, according to the President. “The key reform for the present year is the anti-corruption reform. There are all reasons to consider corruption as a threat to economic growth and national security,” the Head of State noted at the fifth session of the Regional Development Council.

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that the state created preconditions for economic development and beginning of restoration and improvement of the living standards. However, such path of state development is not satisfactory for some people both outside and inside Ukraine. A significant part of the Ukrainian political community is still guided by the principle “the worse, the better”, as stated by the President.

In the course of the fifth of session of the Regional Development Council,  President Petro Poroshenko emphasized that the so-called blockade of Donbas had negative consequences. The Head of State noted that the IMF postponed the approval of the decision, planned for today, on the allocation of the regular tranche - 1 billion dollars necessary for the further replenishment of foreign exchange reserves, maintenance of stable national currency, which would have become a very powerful signal for the investors.

Modern Ukraine, politicians must remember not only lessons of our history, but also make conclusions to prevent the repeat of mistakes, as stated by the President.

President Petro Poroshenko urged political forces to remember about national interests in the internal political struggle and not to destabilize the situation inside the country.

“Our team in the UN ICJ fights for the fair punishment of those guilty in thousands of casualties as a result of terrorist attacks in the Ukrainian Donbas; those who supplied tanks, modern artillery, MLRS, armored vehicles, ammunition, missiles used to shell Avdiivka, Kramatorsk, Mariupol, civilian bus in Volnovakha and shoot down the MH-17 flight,” the Head of State noted at the meeting with Ukraine’s representative in the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General and Head of the Security Service.

“I want to say that Ukraine has two wings like a plane. First is democracy and second is order. And you can fly only with two wings,” the President noted.
