President Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The President expressed gratitude to NATO for the consistent political support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the important practical assistance in countering the Russian aggression.

“It is a shame that we did not manage to include the issue of the Anticorruption Court in the agenda. However, I have no doubt that at the beginning of the next session of the Parliament this issue will be resolved,” Petro Poroshenko said during the meeting with Chairman of the Parliament Andriy Parubiy.

The Law will prevent losses of public funds by increasing control over the public procurement. It also creates conditions for overcoming corruption in this sphere.

During the meeting with Chairman of the Parliament Andriy Parubiy, President Petro Poroshenko signed a submission for the appointment of new members of the Central Election Commission. The Head of State also signed a letter on the dismissal of the CEC members due to the expiration of the period of their powers. “Today, we launch the process of renewing the CEC composition,” the President noted.

In the speech during the solemn event on the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in Kyiv, President Petro Poroshenko emphasized that unlike 100 years ago, Ukraine felt a powerful support from the international partners in the fight for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We have learned the lessons. We will not allow the repeat of the mistakes. I am confident that we will have enough wisdom and strength to keep the political struggle within the European standards of relations between the government and opposition. It is necessary for the enemy not to undermine us from the inside,” the President noted.

“The Act Declaring the Independence of Ukraine would have been impossible without the Fourth Universal. If our glorious ancestors hadn’t sowed the seeds of the idea of independence in 1918, they wouldn’t have grown to almost unanimous support in the referendum of 1991,” the Head of State noted in the speech during the solemn event on the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in Kyiv.

President Petro Poroshenko will sign the Law of Ukraine “On Peculiarities of the State Policy on Ensuring the State Sovereignty of Ukraine in the Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions” as soon as it is submitted by the Verkhovna Rada.

“Modern Ukraine is the heiress of centuries-old national traditions revived during and as a result of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 - 1921. The idea of state independence put on the agenda and tempered during the Revolution has become a powerful material force. It defined the entire course of the history of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko said opening the exhibition.

President Petro Poroshenko and his wife Maryna Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of laying flowers to the monuments to Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Hrushevsky on the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic.
