President Petro Poroshenko signed Decree “On Conferring Title of Hero of Ukraine” to Reshat Ametov who was killed by Russian invaders in Crimea.
“I would like to recall one more history today, just as I recalled it in September 2014 in the U.S. Congress. This is a story of Reshat Ametov, father of three, who died at the age of 39 – for Ukraine and for the Ukrainian Crimea,” Petro Poroshenko said in the course of the speech in the requiem for the victims of deportation of the Crimean Tatar people.
“He bravely protested against “green men”. A group of criminals abducted him in front of dozens of people and TV cameras. In two weeks, he was found tortured. He did not give up. Thinking about the last minutes of Reshat makes any normal person feel terror and pain. And his courage deserves great respect,” the President noted and informed on the decision to confer the highest state award to Reshat Ametov.
