President urged Ukrainians of the whole world to support Ukrainian heroes in the Invictus Games

President Petro Poroshenko visited training of the national Ukrainian team that will participate in the Invictus Games - a world championship among soldiers and veterans who were wounded while performing their duty.

Ukraine has received the right to take part in the Invictus Games 2017 in Toronto as a true NATO ally in the peacekeeping operations all over the world.

The President urged to support the team of Ukrainian warriors who proved themselves not only on the frontline. “I would like all Ukrainians all over the world to support our heroes. We will root for them and they will fight for the title in the Invictus Games,” he said.

I have no doubt that we will show a great performance. I have no doubt that Ukraine will make a case for itself. And I do not exclude that one day, we will do everything to host the Invictus Games in Kyiv, on the Ukrainian soil, and to defend honor of Ukraine here,” the Head of State added.

The President informed that he had already discussed an opportunity to host the competition in our state with the minister. According to him, if the Ukrainian team performs successfully, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will prepare the appropriate conditions for the participation of Kyiv in determining the next priority of the host party. “I am confident that it will not only draw attention of the whole world to how wonderful Ukraine is, but also show our wonderful warriors. You stopped the Russian aggressor and now you took on the heavy wounds,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.

The President emphasized that the Invictus Games facilitate psychological rehabilitation of the Ukrainian defenders. “You are an example and not only the whole world, but also Ukraine and our men are watching you. We don’t just keep on living, but have an opportunity to live a full life and achieve new victories,” he said.

“I urge everyone to root for our team and wish them victories in the sports grounds and in the rehabilitation,” the Head of State emphasized.

The President called the Ukrainian team that is departing to Toronto this week an “elite of Ukraine and the best guard that will decently represent our country in the international tournament”.

The Head of State noted that those athletes were an example for many warriors wounded during the defense of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. “Thousands of Ukrainian servicemen were wounded defending the Ukrainian land from the Russian aggression. We want the whole world to see their capabilities, their power of spirit. We want our guys to show everyone that you can live a full life after a military wound,” he stressed.

The Head of State informs that he is going to support the Ukrainian community in Toronto, as he plans to visit Canada after the participation in the UN GA session and the UN Security Council session that will touch upon the issue of peacekeepers in Donbas. The President also plans to meet with the U.S. leadership, inter alia, with the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

“We will touch upon the issue of the Blue Helmets who will ensure the fulfillment of the undertaken commitments by Russia. In simple language - they should provide peace on the Ukrainian land and politically and diplomatically liberate the territory occupied by the Russian aggressor,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President is hopeful that the Ukrainian initiative as regards the peacekeepers will be endorsed and “Ukraine will manage to influence Russia to accept this scenario and stop the war in Donbas”.
