President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Ukrainian volunteers. “It is a great honor for me to congratulate you, the best, true heroes of Ukraine,” the Head of State noted.
The President reminded that at the beginning of the aggression - on March 13, 2014 - hundreds of Ukrainians volunteered to defend the state relocating to the training center in Novi Petrivtsi.
“We don’t know what fate Ukraine would have if it wasn’t for the good will of the best sons and daughters of the country. Volunteers have been inscribed in successful operations on liberation of the Ukrainian land from invaders with gold letters,” Petro Poroshenko said. The President emphasized that the best volunteer battalions of the AFU, militia, newly established National Guard opposed the enemy having no high-quality weapons, proper material, food and medical supply. At the same time, they were supported by volunteers and had a strong will to win.
The Head of State noted that the traditions of volunteers have been laid down to the new Ukrainian army that has changed dramatically in recent years - different conditions, weapons, training, medical supply, equipment. “The only thing that remained unchanged is love to Ukraine, belief in victory and support of people,” Petro Poroshenko stressed. According to the President, since the beginning of 2017, 7 thousand Ukrainians have volunteered to enter the ranks of the AFU.
“I would like to remember those whose names were given to streets in our cities, villages, to our schools, planes, warships. Future generations of defenders of the Homeland will be raised at their example,” the Head of State emphasized. The President thanked those who work in the National Police, serves in the National Guard and AFU, has an active civil position in social life. “The country needs you. The country needs unity and decisive counteraction to the attempts of the enemy who is trying to destabilize the situation from inside after having understood the impossibility of beating us on the frontline. Thank you for a strong and clear civil position and low bow to each of you,” the President said.
