On June 26, President’s wife Maryna Poroshenko took part in the First Charity Evening “Anne de Kyiv. Nouveau Millénaire” that took place in the National Reserve “Sofia Kyivska” in support of the Cultural Center of Anne of Kyiv and the Сhurch of Saint Boris and Gleb in France.
Addressing the attendees, Maryna Poroshenko noted that such places assemble people to honor memory of Anne of Kyiv and remind us of the cultural dialogue of two European countries - Ukraine and France: “I am convinced that cultural diplomacy is an issue of national security. As we should protect our history, culture and fight for our European future,” the First Lady said.
It is symbolic that the charity evening “Anne de Kyiv. Nouveau Millénaire” takes place exactly one year after the official meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and France, Petro Poroshenko and Emmanuel Macron, which took place on June 26, 2017 in Paris, where the issue of Anne of Kyiv was also discussed.
This charity evening united over 200 state, diplomatic, civil and cultural figures. “With the history of Kyivan Rus and such figures as Anne of Kyiv, we remind that Ukraine became a part of Europe a thousand years ago. We respect our history and are proud of our glorious ancestors. We do everything possible to preserve and convey our historical heritage to the future generations,” Maryna Poroshenko emphasized.
At the initiative of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and with the support of Poroshenko’s Foundation, the funding of the construction of the entrance to the Cultural Center of Anne of Kyiv in the Church of Saint Boris and Gleb in Senlis in the amount of almost 5 million hryvnias started.
