In the framework of the working visit of the Ukrainian President to USA, President’s wife Maryna Poroshenko held a working meeting with the leadership of the New York City Department of Education on the development of an inclusive educational environment.
The wife of the President of Ukraine presented the results of the pilot project of the Poroshenko Charity Foundation "Inclusive education - the level of consciousness of the nation", which is currently being implemented in seven regions of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
During the conversation, Maryna Poroshenko thanked the American party for the cooperation that was launched last year and contributed to significant changes in the process of developing inclusive education in Ukraine. "During this time, the number of inclusive schools in our country increased by 27%, and the number of pupils with special educational needs, which began to study at a regular school, increased by 22%. And this is the most significant indicator that this trend began to gain momentum in Ukraine," the First Lady emphasized.
In addition, the President’s wife noted that the law on inclusive education was adopted in Ukraine this year ensuring equal access to high-quality education for all Ukrainian children without exception. "The adoption of this law is a huge step forward of the entire Ukrainian society in educating a new generation of Ukrainians - more tolerant and humane," Maryna Poroshenko noted.
The Ukrainian and American parties have agreed to continue fruitful cooperation in modernizing education in Ukraine.
