We work and pray for the Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia to return home as soon as possible - President

In the interview to ICTV channel, President Petro Poroshenko stressed that the Ukrainian authorities were doing their best to free Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia.

The Head of State expressed hope that his words of support would be heard or handed over to the captive Ukrainians. "Dear heroes, the people of Ukraine, including the President of the country, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, stand with you. There is no international summit meeting where the issue of the release of Ukrainian sailors, ships and de-occupation of the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov was not raised by me, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs pursuant to my instructions or by our NATO partners," the Head of State answered the question about the chances to release Ukrainian sailors who have been imprisoned for already 100 days in the Russian Federation.

He recalled that the so-called Azov package of sanctions and the very strict requirements of the whole world had been introduced to bring Ukrainians back to their homeland. "We are proud of your behavior, we are proud that you adhere to a clear line that no Russian court has any jurisdiction over your case, that you are prisoners of war," Petro Poroshenko said.

"Unfortunately, I do not expect positive news before the presidential elections. Putin has clearly emphasized that he will not take a single step," the President said. At the same time, the President stresses that the work for the liberation of Ukrainians is continued. "We are waiting for your return home. We look forward to it. And we do not just work, we also pray for it to happen sooner," the Head of State emphasized.

The President also conveyed the words of support to the families of the Ukrainian sailors. "You are real heroes, you are real Ukrainians. Hold on. We are with you," Petro Poroshenko said.
