President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that the unity of Ukraine and its people is an issue that is in line with the security of our state.
"Security is not only war. Security is not only a response to aggression. It is also about our unity," the Head of State stressed during a speech at the Kyiv Security Forum "Tireless Wave: Strategic Choice of Ukraine and the West".
Petro Poroshenko emphasized the importance of the unity of the international coalition in support of Ukraine. "And enormous efforts have been made in this direction. And that is why today we have such a powerful frontline of our friends and supporters around the world," he emphasized.
The President said that he would pay a visit to Germany tomorrow, where he would meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel. "I think that not everyone clearly understands what a huge contribution she has made to the formation of our state in the last five years. And in restoring our territorial integrity her contribution is also difficult to assess. And I sincerely proud that both me and all Ukrainians can confidently call her our greatest friend," Petro Poroshenko said.
He also reported on a scheduled meeting with President of France Emmanuel Macron. "For the fate of the state, the fate of European security is at stake - not only Ukrainian, but also European security. The fate of continental stability. That is why these talks are important for Ukraine, and they are important for them," he stressed.
The President noted that those meetings were extremely important, especially against the background of attempts to reconsider sanctions against Russia. "Every six months Russia tries to ruin these sanctions. And we need responsible, professional and hard work, because our team has been maintaining the unity of the west on this issue for five years. And I emphasize - we will keep doing that," he said.
At the same time, Petro Poroshenko notes that unity is not only international support, it is also unity within the state, which is no less important. "My signal is very simple: there is nothing more valuable than unity between the two banks of the Dnieper. Between the east and west of Ukraine. Between south and north. Between the supporters of Poroshenko and the supporters of another candidate," the President stressed.
That is why, for the aggressor, for the enemies of Ukraine, there is nothing more tempting than trying to loosen this unity somehow, as stated by the President.
"I emphasize that, as President of Ukraine and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, I will not allow anyone to break this unity somehow. It is precisely because of our unity that we were able to survive the most difficult stage in the modern history of Ukraine. It is due to unity that we have saved the state. It is due to unity that we have created a solid base for transforming Ukraine into a successful country of happy people," the Head of State noted.
Petro Poroshenko also stated that it was the common goal of joining the European Union and NATO that united the Ukrainian nation and, thanks to the unifying position of the people's deputies, it was possible to consolidate this course in the Constitution.
