Petro Poroshenko: After April 21, jokes will end and the newly elected President will be on his own not with the camera lens, but with an experienced and uncompromising enemy

"In the time of fake news and shameless misinformation, such forums are just a breath of fresh air for those who want to hear and speak on the basis of accurately verified information. For those who prefer thoughtful discussions, not unfounded populism," Petro Poroshenko said and thanked the organizers of the Kyiv Security Forum for such an important event.

According to him, in recent years on the international platforms one of the most urgent and hot topics of the discussion is the vulnerability of democracies. The President emphasized: "Democratic procedures are used for external influence on internal political processes in the states. Including, with a view to distort the will expression of citizens in the elections".

He emphasized that first of all it is about Russia's interference in the elections, and it was felt by a number of western states. "Guided by this bitter experience, we certainly predicted that Ukraine would definitely be the object of an attack from Russia. We have been preparing for this and a significant part of such attempts were timely identified and prevented," he added.

"However, I must admit that despite all our efforts, we have not been able to completely avoid Russian influence on the Ukrainian elections. The mechanism and the real consequences of this influence are still to be carefully studied and analyzed," Petro Poroshenko said.

"In addition, today in Ukraine we have a truly unique election situation - a campaign that is being held. The virtual candidate appeals to everyone with staged, studied words and lines. The appeal comes exclusively from the screens of TVs and smartphones," the President noted.

"It resembles the movie called "Equilibrium". There, in an imaginary city, residents can see their leader only on huge screens. All emotions and any impulse to action, freedom are suppressed. The ending is unexpected. No "leader" actually exists. There is only his TV image, which conceals a certain group of people with their cynical interests," Petro Poroshenko stressed.

"Many are eagerly waiting for a new episode, where, in bright light, the problems of the real world are not so complicated. But sooner or later the lights will go away and the reality will remain," the Head of State said.

The President encouraged to watch that movie.

"I assume that the show, in which my opponent is trying to turn the presidential elections today, can be liked by many due to its novelty, non-traditionalism, wit,” he noted.

“But after April 21, jokes will end and stark reality will remain. The newly elected President, whoever he is,  will be on his own not with the camera lens, but with an experienced and uncompromising enemy. A leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

"For Putin and his appetites will not go anywhere. This is not a computer game. And the projects of Novorossiya, Little Russia, the land corridor to Crimea are not going anywhere. He has never forgot about them. He is ready to act as soon as there is an opportunity for him," the President added.

According to Petro Poroshenko, a weakened Ukraine set at variance after the elections, with an inexperienced president, is precisely the opportunity, since predators usually attack the victim when it is wounded and weak.
