President Petro Poroshenko plans to convene a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council in the nearest future to inform the Russian Federation about the termination of the treaty on friendship and cooperation by September 30.
"Today, this is an exclusive competence of the President of Ukraine. After the proposals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I am planning to hold a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council and by September 30, to send a letter to the Russian Federation on non-prolongation of the said agreement," the Head of State noted during a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions and groups.
He informs that the deal is not broken, as it is a complicated and lengthy procedure. It is terminated due to non-prolongation.
The President emphasizes that it does not require a vote in the Parliament. "But of course, I would like to hold appropriate consultations on this subject in order to take into account the position and opinion of the Parliament and the level of preparation of the relevant decision of the National Security and Defense Council," Petro Poroshenko said.
