In the framework of the working visit to Canada, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Chrystia Freeland.
They discussed possible ways to the full implementation of mutually beneficial capabilities provided by the FTA Agreement, as well as further enhancement of bilateral cooperation in defense sphere, including the support for Ukraine in the development of close partnership with NATO.
The parties discussed the developments in Donbas and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. They also coordinated approaches to the implementation of the initiative on the deployment of the UN peacekeeping operation all over the occupied territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The parties are hopeful that Canada will stay principled in the issue of sanctions against Moscow, first of all, in the context of the future presidency in the G7.
The Head of State noted Canada’s support for the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. In particular, Petro Poroshenko thanked Chrystia Freeland for her personal participation in the London conference for reforms in Ukraine in July 2017, in the course of which new Canadian projects of support have been announced.
