During his visit to Helsinki, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with President of the European People's Party Joseph Daul.
The Head of State thanked the leadership of the European People's Party for the invitation to take part in the Congress and deliver a speech at the enlarged Summit of the European People's Party to inform the European leaders of the situation in Ukraine in the context of the approaching presidential elections and ongoing Russian aggression.
The President of the European People's Party reaffirmed the unchanged support for Ukraine in the rapprochement with the European Union, the implementation of reforms and the rebuff of the Russian aggression.
The Presidents coordinated approaches to strengthening political and sanction pressure on Russia due to the planned illegal elections in the occupied territories of Donbas, the "crawling annexation" by Russia of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, as well as massive violations of human rights by Russia in Donbas and Crimea.
In the context of the upcoming elections in Ukraine and the European Union in 2019, the leaders agreed to jointly counter Russia's interference in electoral processes.
