President Petro Poroshenko is firmly convinced that the Ukrainian people will support the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO and membership in the European Union at a referendum.
“We are firmly committed to the Euro-Atlantic integration and do not even doubt that in the very near future, the referendums on the accession to NATO and the membership in the European Union will definitely be held in Ukraine and I am confident that the people of Ukraine will support my initiative,” the President said.
According to Petro Poroshenko, support will be the same as during the referendum of December 1, 1991 on the issue of recognition of Ukraine's independence. "I emphasize that the results of the voting will be as convincingly positive as the referendum on the independence of Ukraine that has already been inscribed in the history," he said.
According to him, there are all reasons to think and believe that the worst is already behind. A new army was created in Ukraine that bravely defends the country from the Russian aggressor, reforms are being implemented, the Association Agreement with the EU has been signed and ratified, a visa-free regime has been introduced. "Ukraine has received - not only received, but won - a visa-free regime for our nation, the ratified Association Agreement with the EU has finally begun functioning. For it is on December 1, after the beating of students on November 29, 2013, millions of Ukrainians came to the streets to demand a European future for their state and protect the right of Ukraine to return to the family of European nations," Petro Poroshenko said.
