During a meeting of the Zhytomyr Regional Development Council, President Petro Poroshenko stressed the importance of the development of the Ukrainian missile industry, especially in the face of new threats from the aggressor country.
"Here, in the homeland of Sergei Korolev (a scientist in the field of rocketry and astronautics, designer - ed.), I want to remind that Ukraine has a rich rocketry experience. In fact, we remembered him five years ago. And you have already heard the results of these trials that we have held now," the President said.
He recalled that Ukraine had adhered to certain restrictions imposed by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which had been in force since the Soviet Union's time. "Now, Russia has destroyed this treaty by consistently creating new threats to European security," the President emphasized and stressed that "the conclusions from the new situation are made by all our partners".
"The US legally withdrew from this treaty. We also made conclusions. Our design bureaus, our industry are not bound by any restrictions on the flight range of missiles anymore," Petro Poroshenko said.
"Hence, the issue of creating a high-precision missile weaponry of an increased radius of action that can strike targets far into the enemy's rear is on the agenda. We will strengthen our army even more, we will increase the security guarantees of every Ukrainian," he said.
"These proper security guarantees are a prerequisite for our goal of turning Ukraine into a great country of happy, prosperous and free people. And we are going to this goal in our own way," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
