Ukraine to host the European Cadet Wrestling Championship in April

Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Ihor Rainin held a working meeting within the preparations to the European Cadet Wrestling Championship. The competition will take place on April 22-30, 2018 in Kyiv.

“We have an experience of hosting significant European sports competitions. Last year we organized the European boxing championship in Kharkiv and the European water jumping championship in Kyiv. This year we will organize two final matches of the UEFA Champions League. And, of course, we are able to organize the European championship of all kinds of wrestling - Greco-Roman, freestyle, competition among women - on a high international level," the Head of the Presidential Administration noted.

He emphasized that the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kyiv CSA, the Ukrainian Wrestling Association paid significant attention to that European sports event.

Member of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee, representative of the IOC in the Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency Nenad Lalović said that the given championship would be one of the most important in 2018.

“This is very important for Ukraine, as this championship is a qualification for the Youth Olympic Games that will be held in Argentina this October," he said.

The Head of the Presidential Administration noted that during the preparation for such a level of competition, conditions would be created to ensure safety and respect for each athlete in full compliance with international rules and the current legislation of Ukraine.

The parties reached an agreement that the national federations of the countries planning to be represented at the European Championship must apply for the participation of their athletes in time. It was also emphasized that athletes who illegally visited the occupied territories of Ukraine - Crimea, certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions - will not be admitted to the competition.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Rostyslav Pavlenko, Vice President of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Tseno Tsenov, First Vice President of the Ukrainian Wrestling Association Oleksandr Dorovskyi.
