President opening the production line for the manufacture of large caliber shells: This is a powerful contribution to our victory

President Petro Poroshenko took part in the opening of the production line for the manufacture of large caliber artillery shells at "Artem" JSC.

"I am confident that today it is a powerful contribution to our victory, which will surely happen. Because we are Ukrainians, we are defending our own land, we are defending our own state, we are defending the security of our people," the Head of State addressed the workers of the enterprise and participants of the ceremony of opening a new production site for the manufacture of ammunition.

Petro Poroshenko noted that in four years of the war artillery provided a reliable defense of the Ukrainian land. He reminded that in 2012-2013, there was an issue of utilization of ammunition, but unfortunately, the war changed everything very quickly.

"In terms of the most scarce, most effective ammunition that the Ukrainian Armed Forces need, the Ukrainian defense industry has fulfilled the order of the Armed Forces, fulfilled my task," the President said.

Petro Poroshenko also noted that ten years have passed since the day of Russian occupation in Georgia: "I can say that from the Russian aggression against Ukraine and from those events a decade ago, we have made conclusions".

The President also noted that the National Security and Defense Council has developed a targeted program on his instructions to launch a new production of Ukrainian ammunition.

At the same time, Petro Poroshenko added that it was not easy to open such production. "We need new equipment, which nobody wanted to sell us in 2014. Despite the fact that the state, the military budget, the budget of the Ministry of Economy has been allocated to purchase new equipment. All the diplomatic efforts of the President of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs were aimed to obtain the necessary licenses. But I can emphasize that the level of confidence in Ukraine was very low and former Ukrainian authorities were political outcasts, so nobody trusted us and nobody supplied the equipment," he said.

According to the President, Ukraine was moving to this goal gradually, with the persistent work of the Ukrainian military, demonstrating how we defend our land. According to him, the generals of NATO countries who came to us to be advisers especially noted how quickly the Ukrainian people restored the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"The same processes, yet not so publicly, occurred in the defense industry," he noted, adding that from all over the world Ukraine supplied the most advanced dual-use equipment.

"The defense industry is well aware of that, because a substantial part of this equipment is now installed in these workshops. New machines that manufacture “Vilkha” came from Turkey and are already in operation. Many countries of the world supply this unique equipment for the defense industry of Ukraine today,” Petro Poroshenko said.

At the same time, the Head of State stressed that it was impossible to launch the production of ammunition without the most valuable component - the school of Ukrainian defense industry, the workers' hands of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex. According to him, today, prominent workers of the defense industry create a school that no country in the world has. "Today, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, other scientific institutions train the best staff for the defense industry of Ukraine," he said.

"Today, I can tell the Ukrainian people - we have something to be proud of," Petro Poroshenko noted.

"Remember, when there was a special confiscation of $1.5 billion stolen from the people of Ukraine by the previous government. I said that this money will work for Ukraine, for its people, for its defense, for its army," the President stressed.

According to him, the first priority was the construction of dormitories for the Ukrainian military contractors. "By the end of this year, we will have dormitories for almost 23 thousand Ukrainian servicemen-contractors," he said.

The President also emphasized that this money was directed to the rural medicine and now all the country is building new rural medical institutions, the telemedicine project is being developed.

Part of this money was sent to the defense industry and facilitated the creation of a complex for the production of artillery and aircraft ammunition. According to him, an appropriate program was adopted in 2016 and the necessary equipment was received  in 2017-18.
