Ukrainian citizens made a choice in the direction of Europe and confidently continue the movement from Russia and its influence towards the family of European nations, President Poroshenko emphasizes.
"We, the Ukrainian people, made our European choice. We confidently leave the sphere of Russian influence," the President said during the events commemorating the victims of political repressions in Bykivnia.
Petro Poroshenko reminded that the day before he had signed a decree, which had finally stopped the participation of Ukraine in the work of the statutory bodies of the so-called Commonwealth of Independent States and terminated our permanent representation in this organization.
"Ukraine, starting from the Białowieża Forest, considered the CIS as an instrument of a civilized break up with the empire. A civilized one did not work because of Russia’s fault. Moscow sought to turn the Commonwealth into a renewed empire, where everyone, as in the old Soviet times, would synchronize watches with the Spasskaya Tower in the Kremlin. Therefore, Ukraine has not ratified the CIS Charter and was not going to become a full member of the CIS. Now we will carefully review all the international treaties concluded in the framework of the CIS, and we will withdraw from those in which we find even the slightest mismatch with national interests," the President emphasized.
"My mission, in which I feel the support of the majority of Ukrainian society, is to make Ukraine irretrievably come out of a deadly zone of gravity of the Russian empire," the Head of State summed up.
