President Petro Poroshenko stresses the need for the further increase of the monetary support of Ukrainian soldiers. "Our strength is highly professional warriors. And our key task is to keep professionals, motivate our professionals for the long-term contracts," the Head of State said during the meeting with the commanders of the brigades and regiments of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service of Ukraine in Khmelnytskyi region.
"I want to emphasize that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, when approving the military budget for 2019, supported my proposal to increase the financial support of Ukrainian warriors by 35-37%. I am convinced that we must continue this line in the future," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
He noted that due to the joint efforts "we have a completely different warrior". "This is a trained, equipped, warrior with a firm belief in the victory. To a large extent this was facilitated by a course on the professionalization of the Ukrainian army. Over 2016-2018, more than 130,000 people came to the Armed Forces to serve under the contract. In two years. Who are they? Volunteers. They came not from mobilization, they voluntarily went to defend the Homeland," he stated.
Some of these people serve today. However, the President noted, the part intends to retire. The reason for this is a set of factors and among them is dissatisfaction with the remuneration, social package and housing.
"It is necessary to admit objectively that the insufficient attractiveness of the level of monetary support, the traditional slow pace of housing provision, although we have raised it, underdeveloped infrastructure, long-term household inconveniences in places of permanent disposition - all this slows down the process of professionalization of the Ukrainian army and promotes the outflow of the well trained personnel," the Head of State said.
That is why we must not only continue to increase the pace of provision of housing, improve their living conditions and increase the financial component, the President is convinced. It is necessary to return to the army those who had previously received good training and experience but resigned, he also stressed.
"One of our key tasks is to change the attitude towards the person in the army. Rigid discipline depends primarily on the commander - the commander of the division, platoon, company, battalion. And the effective work of this team depends on the commander of the brigade. On you. And we count on you very much. The discipline does not relieve the need to respect the professional, respect the patriot, respect the person and respect the military team. This approach also suggests the direction of updating the military charters," Petro Poroshenko said. He is convinced that soldiers should not only listen to or fear their commanders, but also respect them. Then there will not be any issues with discipline.
