Strengthening Sanctions Against Russia and Enhancing Ukraine’s Air Defense: The President Met with U.S. Senators

After the National Prayer Breakfast, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and James Lankford, who also attended the event.

The Head of State thanked the Senators for visiting Ukraine on National Flag Day and on the eve of Independence Day. The President emphasized that it is critically important to strengthen sanctions against Russia to force it to end the war through diplomacy. That is why, he said, it is important to pass as soon as possible the bill that the late Senator Lindsey Graham had worked on.

“We are grateful for your support for Ukraine. Lindsey Graham was a great friend of our country. Strengthening sanctions could be very painful for Russia,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The Head of State separately thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for their efforts to achieve peace.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia is intensifying its missile terror, striking Ukraine’s agricultural sector and attacking our infrastructure with ballistic missiles. That is why Ukraine needs protection against these brutal strikes. According to the President, our country also needs interceptor missiles to prepare for the winter and protect critical infrastructure. The Head of State spoke about the work underway to obtain licenses to produce missiles for Patriot systems in Ukraine, which is one of our top priorities right now.
