President and First Lady Visited “That Day” Exhibition Marking 35th Anniversary of the Restoration of Ukraine’s Independence

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the interactive “That Day” exhibition marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence.

“‘That Day’ is about Ukrainians. About our history, the present and future of our state. About the great day – August 24, 1991, about the path we have already traveled, about our fight, strength and memory, about the inseparable traits of the Ukrainian character, and about how we envision our own tomorrow and another, no less important ‘that day’ – when Ukraine achieves the dignified peace it deserves,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Olena Zelenska said on their social media accounts.

Yaroslava Gres, founder of the Ukraine WOW NGO, told the President and First Lady about the exhibits on display, the interactive elements, and the messages the exhibition aims to convey.

The exhibition presents different periods in the history of our state and the life of Ukrainian society, from the prerequisites for the declaration of Ukraine’s independence and the landmark day of August 24, 1991, through the present day to visions and ideas for Ukraine’s future.

Visitors to the exhibition can explore interactive areas dedicated to the events surrounding the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, works by prominent Ukrainian artists and other creative figures, and VR technologies that allow visitors to step inside the office of the President of Ukraine, enter the Verkhovna Rada chamber, and see the starry sky as it appeared on August 24, 1991.

For the first time, symbols of the Head of the Ukrainian State will be presented to the general public: the mace, seal, breast badge, and presidential standard, as well as international awards received during the full-scale war.

The exhibition also features iconic state flags of Ukraine: the flag from the Unity Chain of January 21, 1990; the flag carried into the Verkhovna Rada chamber on the evening of August 24, 1991; and the flag raised over the Akademik Vernadsky Station in 1996.
