Ahead of the Day of the Communications and Cybersecurity Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which from now on will be observed on August 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with service members of the Communications and Cybersecurity Forces and presented them with state awards.
The Head of State thanked them for their service and for protecting communications.
“Communications are needed first and foremost on the front line. Absolutely everyone needs them: whether you’re in the Airborne Assault Forces, a Marine or an infantryman, taking part in a counteroffensive operation, holding the line, or defending one of our country’s important facilities. You are always there, and your constant presence is extremely important,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President noted that the Communications and Cybersecurity Forces make an important contribution to protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the Head of State, since the first days of Russia’s full-scale aggression, communications personnel have repelled thousands of enemy cyberattacks.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented service members with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III class; the Order "For Courage," III class; the Order of Danylo Halytskyi; and the medals "For Military Service to Ukraine," "For Impeccable Service," III class, and "To the Defender of the Motherland."
Among those honored are service members who maintain communications for combat units despite constant threats to their lives, enemy shelling, and changing operational conditions. While carrying out their missions, communications personnel have repeatedly destroyed enemy FPV drones. Also honored were specialists who strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to counter modern cyber threats and challenges, introduce cutting-edge technologies, and develop cooperation with Ukraine’s partners in this field.
On August 6, by presidential decree, the President established the Day of the Communications and Cybersecurity Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to be observed annually on August 8. Previously, August 8 was observed in Ukraine as the Day of the Communications Forces.
