In Dublin, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska held a meeting with President of Ireland Catherine Connolly during their first official visit to the country.
The Head of State thanked Ireland for its financial and humanitarian assistance since the start of Russia’s full-scale war, and in particular for its support of Ukrainians who have found refuge in Ireland.
Catherine Connolly emphasized that the war must end with a just and lasting peace.
One of the main topics of discussion was the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. Ukraine values Ireland’s participation in the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and counts on its support for the resolution on children that will be brought before the UN General Assembly tomorrow.
The meeting also addressed the joining of University College Cork and the University of Galway to the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies.
Special attention was given to the negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The Presidents discussed possible steps and decisions that could lead to a unanimous decision by all EU member states. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Ireland for its support.
They also discussed cooperation on ensuring global food security, creating conditions for the rehabilitation and social reintegration of Ukrainian warriors, and the construction of shelters in Ukrainian schools.
