President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Barham Salih, who assumed office on January 1 of this year.
“First of all, I sincerely thank you for your visit and for supporting our people during these difficult days and nights for Ukrainians. We highly value your support throughout this entire period. I hope we can count on its continuation,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State noted that Ukraine expects the UN Refugee Agency to increase support for Ukrainians who are forced to live under constant Russian attacks.
During the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Barham Salih discussed the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy system and the assistance required.
“They do not want to stop. We are trying to do everything we can at different levels of negotiations, relying on the support of our American partners. But we feel more pressure is needed. And also more support for the morale of our people,” the President emphasized.
Barham Salih noted that he wanted to come to Ukraine precisely at this time, in winter, to express solidarity with its people.
“We are proud to cooperate with you. The UNHCR will continue and strengthen our support, complementing the extraordinary efforts of the authorities, and will do more to support resilient communities in the recovery process,” he said.
