President Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of bidding farewell to prominent Ukrainian philosopher and public figure, Director of Hryhorii Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Myroslav Popovych. The ceremony was held in the conference hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The President paid tribute to the great academician-philosopher and humanist and expressed his condolences to the family of Mr. Myroslav.

“Today, Ukraine bids farewell to its great son Myroslav Volodymyrovych Popovych. It is hard to overestimate the scale of this person and his efforts for the revival of Ukraine, Ukrainian spirit, Ukrainian morality,” Petro Poroshenko said.

Over the past years, the President had an opportunity to meet with Myroslav Popovych frequently and discuss the future of Ukraine in the framework of “December 1” initiative. “Myroslav never looked into the past. He always looked into the future, dreamed of reforming Ukraine resolutely and gave valuable recommendations,” the President noted.

“It is not just a loss of a great Ukrainian, a great public figure for me today. I can tell that Mr. Myroslav was my teacher in a certain way,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.

“I express condolences not only to the relatives, but also to all Ukrainians who loved and honored Mr. Myroslav," he said.

The Head of State recalled his last meeting with the philosopher that was held in the framework of “December 1” group: “He was completely immersed in the work, in the advice. He was very worried about Ukraine. He was a great citizen. He was very concerned about what we have to do. For me it was an extremely strong support”.

“That is why it is really personal for me,” Petro Poroshenko added.
