The leaders discussed diplomatic efforts to achieve a genuine and just peace, the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense, continued energy cooperation, work with partners on security guarantees, and the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.

This year, the event gathered 1,200 people: service members and family members of fallen heroes, volunteers, chaplains, public figures, and representatives of churches and religious organizations.

Norway is one of the leaders in supporting Ukraine, and this includes support for our defense in the war and, without a doubt, for our Ukrainian resilience. Much has already been done, and today’s meeting can also yield good results.

Ukraine marked the 34th anniversary of its restored independence, with foreign leaders extending their congratulations to our country on the occasion. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the warm wishes and for the support of Ukraine.

And I am very glad that for the fifth year in a row, despite the war, despite Russia’s attempt to take everything from us, we continue this tradition. Ukraine honors its legends – those who inspire us all, those to whom the world applauds.

The visit reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Canada and Ukraine, grounded in shared democratic values, respect for sovereignty and international law, and a mutual understanding that borders must not be altered by force.
