EU Membership Is an Integral Element of Security Guarantees for Ukraine – Ihor Zhovkva

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva met with the chairs of the European and Foreign Affairs Committees of the parliaments of Denmark, Ireland, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Finland, and Sweden, led by Vice-President of the European Parliament Esteban Pons.

The main topic of discussion was Ukraine’s further progress toward membership in the European Union. The parties coordinated their positions to ensure the prompt opening of the first negotiating cluster, as the screening process will be completed by the end of September.

“Membership in the European Union is an integral element of security guarantees for Ukraine. This is the position of the President of Ukraine, and it is shared by European leaders. It is also part of the broader process of restoring sustainable and just peace in Ukraine. That is why our country must receive a clear membership perspective, defined within a timeframe,” emphasized the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.

The parties also agreed that Ukraine’s accession to the EU would be mutually beneficial, both from a security and economic standpoint.

Ihor Zhovkva separately thanked the countries that have already contributed to the PURL initiative and urged for expanded assistance within this framework.

In addition, he expressed gratitude for the readiness to provide loans for Ukraine’s defense needs under the SAFE instrument, as well as for investments in the development of Ukraine’s defense production.
