Arms Exports Must Become a Long-Term Source of Economic Strength for Ukraine – Address by the President

I wish you health, fellow Ukrainians!

Briefly about this day. Today, I held a detailed and very practical meeting on our weapons – what exactly is needed in larger quantities for our defense here in Ukraine, and what exactly can be exported in order to further strengthen Ukraine and our ties with the world – additionally and for the long term. Arms exports must become a long-term source of economic strength for Ukraine. We are working through the details – the NSDC, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, and the parliamentary component – so that no regulatory changes are delayed.

We are also actively working with the Government to ensure that in June Ukraine receives funds from the EUR 90 billion European support package. We fought for this package, and it has been approved. Procedurally, the funds need to start working for Ukraine already now, in the summer – for our resilience, for our defense, and for assistance to our people, to Ukrainians. And this will happen.

There is also progress in our negotiations with the European Union regarding Ukraine’s membership. We will have a very clear schedule of opportunities for moving forward in the negotiations, especially after the changes in Hungary. We met the deadlines. Now, already in June, we strongly expect to move to the opening of the clusters, which Ukraine has prepared. We've done our part. Now it’s up to the European Union. Practically every day, our team is in communication with the EU side, and this is important – very important – for our motivation, for the motivation of all our people. Every positive piece of news from the European Union confirms that Ukraine is on the right path and that our partners stand with us – with Ukraine.

We are also preparing meetings with some of our most capable partners in Europe – we are counting on good, strong decisions, and this is important. Our priorities are absolutely clear: air defense for Ukraine, sanctions against Russia for the war, our joint weapons production with partners, political coordination, and real support for Ukrainians who are going through this full-scale war. Ukrainians must feel that our state is not alone in defending itself. And we are ensuring this. Ties with the world are one of the foundations of our defense and something that significantly strengthens Ukrainian independence.

I thank everyone – I thank each and every person who stands with us, who stands with Ukraine.

Glory to Ukraine!
