President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss continued support for Ukraine, including strengthening air defense, direct investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, and the importance of increasing pressure on Russia.
The Head of State informed the Prime Minister about the course of negotiations in Istanbul and emphasized that their outcome must lead to meaningful prospects. The President once again reaffirmed his readiness for the meeting at the highest level to personally address the most important issues.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Jonas Gahr Støre also exchanged views on possible venues for the next meeting with the Russian side.
Special attention was paid to the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia. The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Norway share the view that sanctions will be most effective if coordinated between the United States, Europe, and other countries.
Among other important topics discussed was defense assistance to Ukraine. The President outlined Ukraine’s key needs, particularly the necessity of enhancing air defense.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Jonas Gahr Støre discussed the possibility of purchasing an additional air defense system for Ukraine with the support of Northern European countries.
The leaders also focused on direct investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, especially in drone production. The Prime Minister stressed that Norway is already part of the Drone Coalition and is ready to do more.
Additionally, the meeting included discussion of gas procurement for Ukraine, with both sides exploring various options.
The President noted that Ukraine values Norway’s support – particularly the security and defense cooperation and the coordinated efforts to achieve a just and durable peace.
