Kyrylo Budanov and Iryna Mudra Held a Meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, and his Deputy, Iryna Mudra, held a meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mattias Guyomar.

“Today, the European Court of Human Rights continues to remain effective under unprecedented pressure. In particular, interstate cases brought by Ukraine against the Russian Federation are already shaping the practical accountability of the aggressor state and will have long-term consequences for the entire European legal system,” Kyrylo Budanov said.

Mattias Guyomar stressed that the European Court of Human Rights was among the first international judicial institutions to find Russia responsible for systemic human rights violations in Ukraine since 2014. He also assured that fair and impartial consideration of cases involving Ukraine remains one of the key priorities.

“We also note an important fact: despite the full-scale war, strikes on critical infrastructure, and systemic pressure, Ukraine is fully participating in all processes, ensuring a proper legal position and effectively defending its interests,” the President of the ECHR added.

Iryna Mudra noted that the effectiveness of human rights protection in Europe directly depends on the authority and independence of the Court.

“That is why Ukraine consistently supports the ECHR: today it is an institution that truly works and is capable of protecting people’s rights even in difficult circumstances,” she added.
