President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the sites of emergency response work on Dehtiarivska Street and at the National Museum “Chornobyl” in Kyiv – sites struck by Russia overnight on May 24.
As a result of the Russian strike on a residential building on Dehtiarivska Street, part of one section of the building was destroyed from the first to the fifth floors. Debris removal is currently underway. As of now, two people are known to have been killed. Two more people are considered missing. In total, more than 70 people have been injured in the capital. Humanitarian headquarters are operating in the city’s districts to provide support to everyone who needs it.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported to the President that about 670 rescuers are involved in emergency search-and-rescue operations in Kyiv, with more than 130 pieces of equipment deployed. Emergency work and the evacuation of exhibits are ongoing in the museum building.
The Head of State emphasized that the Russians struck civilian infrastructure that has absolutely nothing to do with military targets. The Chornobyl Museum was opened less than a month ago after reconstruction — on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.
“Today, they completely destroyed it with a missile strike, and attacked hospitals, kindergartens, and schools. We are very grateful to our heroic first responders of the State Emergency Service, to our people, and to the police – they were helping,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
Last night, Russia launched a combined strike against Ukraine, using 90 missiles of various types, including 36 ballistic missiles, and 600 drones. Kyiv was the Russians’ main target, but the Kyiv, Poltava, and Kirovohrad regions, as well as Cherkasy, also came under attack. This enemy attack claimed the lives of four people, with about 100 more injured across the country.
