President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže.
“Thank you for your visit. Thank you for visiting Chernihiv yesterday. It is very important for us when our friends and partners – foreign representatives – visit such places and help, for example, with rebuilding schools and kindergartens. This project is very important for us,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President emphasized the importance of Latvia’s contribution to the PURL initiative, which makes it possible to procure air defense missiles, including for Patriot systems. The parties also discussed opportunities of using the SAFE mechanism.
The meeting also addressed prospects for joint weapons production. In addition, Latvia is a leader in the Drone Capability Coalition and has supplied Ukraine with about 12,000 drones this year.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Baiba Braže also discussed the current diplomatic situation. Both sides share the same position: it is necessary to ramp up sanctions pressure on Russia and continue the relevant work with partners.
“These are challenging times for Ukraine and for all of us. But Ukraine is strong and democratic. Latvia stands with Ukraine and will continue to do so,” the Foreign Minister noted.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Baiba Braže with the Order of Merit, II class, for her substantial personal contribution to strengthening intergovernmental cooperation and supporting Ukraine’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
