In Rome, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
The Head of State briefed her on the work of the Ukrainian negotiating team. For Ukraine, it is important to forge a unified European voice in support of a just peace and to obtain security guarantees to ensure that Russian aggression does not happen again.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Giorgia Meloni discussed all aspects of the current diplomatic framework. The President noted that Italy is among the active participants in generating practical ideas and defining steps forward, and Ukraine counts on its continued support.
The leaders also addressed Ukraine’s defense support, primarily strengthening air defense, as well as bolstering energy resilience in the face of ongoing Russian strikes on energy facilities. The Head of State expressed gratitude for a package of energy assistance, which includes essential equipment to support Ukrainian families in cities and communities that continue to endure constant Russian attacks.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Giorgia Meloni focused on further financial support for Ukraine, including needs and potential ways to direct Russia’s frozen assets toward protecting and rebuilding the country.
