In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held six bilateral meetings with the heads of state and government of countries participating in the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) Summit: the Presidents of Lithuania and Finland and the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, and Norway.
The Head of State thanked them for their unwavering support for our country during Russia’s full-scale aggression.
The main topic of discussion at all the meetings was strengthening air defense and advancing work on anti-ballistic capabilities, including the FREYJA project.
Another important issue is strengthening resilience ahead of winter, particularly in the energy sector. The President thanked the partners for the decisions already made and those currently being prepared.
Another key area is expanding cooperation in defense production: implementing the agreements already concluded under the Drone Deal format and preparing such documents with partners with whom work is still ongoing.
European integration is among the main priorities. The Nordic and Baltic countries consistently support Ukraine on this path.
Special attention was also paid to Ukraine’s financial resilience. Our country is counting on the support of partners in helping cover the defense budget deficit caused by spending on urgent needs. This $27 billion gap can be covered by bringing forward to this year part of the European loan financing planned for 2027. In particular, around €10 billion is needed to ensure that our warriors have weapons in January and February that are already being produced.
