Further Reduction of the Price Cap on Russian Oil and Active Countermeasures Against the Shadow Fleet Will Force Russia to Be More Open to Peace – Ihor Brusylо

The Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Ihor Brusylо, held a meeting with the Director General Political and Political Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom, Edward Llewellyn.

The key topics of the meeting included the diplomatic process, security guarantees for Ukraine, the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, and support for Ukraine’s energy system.

Ihor Brusylо briefed Edward Llewellyn on the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities and handed over a list of equipment needed to restore the energy system. Our state is counting on an additional assistance package from the United Kingdom. Edward Llewellyn noted the resilience of Ukrainians and reaffirmed continued UK support.

The parties also discussed the progress of negotiations aimed at achieving a dignified peace. The Deputy Head of the Office of the President emphasized the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, since reducing the Russian Federation’s revenues from energy exports remains a key instrument for limiting its ability to continue aggression.

The sides aligned their positions ahead of a meeting of European representatives in the United Kingdom next week, which will focus on further measures against Russia’s shadow fleet. Among Ukraine’s key priorities are lowering the price of Russian oil below USD 30 per barrel; banning tankers from entering European ports and passing through European straits; denying insurance coverage to operating companies; and preventing the use of European tankers to transport Russian oil.

“Further reduction of the price cap on Russian oil and active countermeasures against the shadow fleet will force Russia to be more open to peace,” Ihor Brusylо stressed.

In addition, the meeting addressed the launch of joint work on a legally binding agreement for the deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing. The relevant declaration was signed by the leaders of Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and France in Paris on January 6.
