Strengthening Sanctions against the Russian Federation and Continued Support for Ukraine: Ihor Zhovkva Held Talks with the International Adviser to the Prime Minister of Australia

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a phone call with Principal Adviser – International to the Prime Minister of Australia Rod Hilton.

Ihor Zhovkva thanked Australia for its support for Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the total amount of which has already reached USD 1.2 billion, including USD 1 billion in military assistance. Australia is the largest non-NATO contributor of military support to Ukraine.

Particular attention was paid to the sanctions policy. Ihor Zhovkva expressed gratitude for Australia’s sanctions packages, including sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. In total, Australia has imposed sanctions on 261 tankers, as well as more than 1,800 individuals and legal entities. The sides discussed further steps to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia.

They also discussed international accountability for Russia, namely the process of establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and the possibility of Australia joining the expanded partial agreement on the Tribunal.

The conversation also covered further contacts between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, as well as deepening cooperation between the two countries.
