President Discussed Strengthening Ukraine’s Air Defense and New Sanctions Against Russia With U.S. Congressional Delegation

In Ankara, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a bipartisan delegation from both houses of the United States Congress: Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Lindsey Graham, Richard Durbin, Christopher Coons, and Mike Rounds, and U.S. Representative Mike Turner.

The Head of State thanked them for their support and attention to Ukraine.

During the meeting, they had a substantive discussion about the prospects for diplomacy and what is needed for it to succeed.

“We have a real chance to push Putin toward negotiations this year, and that is why we need the unanimity and unity of all our partners,” the President noted.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed them about the need for interceptor missiles for Patriot systems and Russian strikes against our people. The Head of State emphasized that contributions to the PURL program and other air defense deliveries are the top priority for Ukraine’s defense.

They also discussed the Russia sanctions bill. The President noted that it is very important for pressure on Russia over the war to continue, and that this initiative can truly help advance peace.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Senators and Members of Congress for their words of respect for Ukrainian warriors and operations, as well as their assurances that assistance will continue. The Head of State expressed gratitude to the United States and every caring American heart for their support.
