President Discussed Strengthening Air Defense in Communities Bordering Belarus, Road Repairs, and the Implementation of Resilience Plans with Representatives of Communities in the Kyiv and Chernihiv Regions

In Slavutych, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with representatives of territorial communities of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions to discuss practical issues that require prompt resolution.

Joining the meeting by videoconference were Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko; First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal; Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba; Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko; Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov; Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko; and Acting Minister of Digital Transformation Oleksandr Borniakov.

The Head of State thanked the leaders of communities in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions for their work and spoke about the security challenges in the regions, in particular the threats in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction.

“These threatening actions have not stopped since the beginning of the war. Everyone understands perfectly well that Ukraine cannot allow even a fraction of such risks for our people to be repeated,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that, at a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a decision was made to reinforce personnel in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction.

During the meeting, they also discussed strengthening fortifications and air defense capabilities to protect the border.

“The Minister of Defense of Ukraine knows this priority – there must be an allocation of additional equipment, and there will be. We have this capability. I expect a report on the results. There is also funding for all our defense measures in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction. If there are urgent issues – issues of equipment or resources – and communities can carry out what is needed themselves, the Government must ensure this, fund it, and help,” the Head of State said.

Special attention was paid to the full implementation of regional energy resilience plans.

“I want to thank you for the fact that your communities are implementing the plan quite well. But we need the final result by the ninth month – that was the task we set – so that we have alternative power sources available, even if it won’t be easy,” the President emphasized.

They also discussed road repairs in the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Yuliia Svyrydenko noted that the Government plans to allocate UAH 3.5 billion from the state budget reserve fund for the repair of local roads, particularly in frontline territories, on a co-financing basis. Oleksii Kuleba reported that repair works in the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions will begin on June 1.

They also discussed support for businesses in communities of the border regions. The President emphasized that entrepreneurs in these communities should receive additional preferences, which the Government must work through.

In addition, they discussed increasing pay for the Chornobyl NPP staff. Denys Shmyhal informed those present about the relevant work to resolve this issue. Sergii Marchenko promised that decisions on salaries would be made already in June.
