The President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Discussed Additional Contributions to the PURL Initiative, Energy Assistance, and Air Defense Strengthening

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna.

“We are thankful for the energy packages, first of all, the energy support, which is crucial for us amid all these brutal attacks on our energy infrastructure. In any case, we must also remain strong on the battlefield, and that is why, secondly, we are very grateful for all your military assistance packages,” the Head of State said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Margus Tsahkna discussed further defense support for Ukraine and cooperation with partners within the Coalition of the Willing. The President briefed the Minister on Ukraine’s needs, particularly the need for additional air defense missiles.

The Head of State highlighted Estonia’s participation in the PURL initiative, which enables Ukraine to purchase air defense missiles from the United States. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine now requires additional contributions to PURL. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Estonia is considering this possibility.

Margus Tsahkna also noted that his country continues to implement humanitarian projects. In particular, he recently participated in the opening of a reconstructed residential building in Ovruch for 100 internally displaced persons, as well as a shelter at a rehabilitation center in Zhytomyr. Plans include the construction of shelters for a kindergarten and for people with special needs.

“For me, these were particularly emotional events, because it is very important to see that these small pieces that we do actually mean a lot. And I am sure that we will continue to support you. You also know that our Ministry of Defense has already approved assistance for you according to the list of necessary items you require this year,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted.

They also discussed diplomatic efforts, including the meetings of the Ukrainian, American, and Russian parties in Abu Dhabi and preparations for the next negotiations.

In addition, they addressed measures that could compel Russia toward peace and support diplomatic efforts. In particular, they focused on finalizing the EU’s 20th sanctions package and blocking Russia’s tanker fleet.
