President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the warriors of the Engineering Troops on their professional holiday and presented them with state awards.
“The units of the Engineering Troops do things that give strength and capabilities to many of our other warriors. These are the crossings, the minelaying against the enemy, the clearing of our land from Russian minefields, and the fortification of our positions,” the Head of State emphasized.
The President noted that engineering units are among the first to arrive on the battlefield, and that heroic operations and all active combat actions would be impossible without Ukrainian military engineers.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked everyone carrying out combat missions and called for remembering the fallen warriors. The fallen defenders were commemorated with a moment of silence.
The Head of State presented the Cross of Military Merit to Junior Sergeant Serhii Bolkun, who carried out combat missions in the Sumy region and took part in the Kursk operation. He repeatedly came under enemy fire. Leading a demining group, he discovered and neutralized more than 70 anti-tank and anti-personnel explosive devices. In May of this year, he sustained a severe injury after stepping on an anti-personnel mine, but after treatment, he returned to the front and continued to carry out missions.
The President also presented warriors of the Engineering Troops with the Orders “For Courage,” II and III class.
