In the Odesa region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Command of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine focused on security issues in the region.
The meeting was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa, Head of the Odesa City Military Administration Serhiy Lysak, and Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper.
Oleksiy Neizhpapa briefed the Head of State on the overall situation, including constant Russian air attacks with “shaheds” and missiles, as well as countermeasures. The Commander of the Naval Forces also informed the President about the preparedness to counter threats at sea.
Particular attention was given to Ukrainian deep-strike operations, strengthening communication systems, mine countermeasure capabilities, and training and equipping naval infantry.
The discussion also focused on strengthening defense capabilities with unmanned systems and aviation. In particular, the participants considered increasing the number of helicopters to reinforce air defense in the region and counter drone threats.
They also discussed in detail the completion and outfitting of Ukraine’s Ada-class corvettes, Hetman Ivan Mazepa and Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi, which are being built in Türkiye for Ukraine.
The President was presented with the technical strike capabilities of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including Neptune and Harpoon missile systems, advanced unmanned systems, and torpedoes. The meeting identified additional requirements to further strengthen the combat capabilities of the Navy.
